  2. High-performance axial flux motor technology developed by Chinese researchers was unveiled on June 5, featuring a new permanent-magnet material designed for electric vehicles, humanoid robots, and low-altitude aircraft, according to CCTV. The project was jointly developed by Pangoo Power and the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The partners introduced a dedicated permanent magnet material designed specifically for axial flux motors, improving magnetic energy product, high-temperature stability, and mechanical strength while maintaining compatibility with mass production. Why axial flux motors are attracting attention Axial flux motors differ from conventional radial-flux motors by directing magnetic flux parallel to the motor shaft rather than outward from the centre. This disc-shaped architecture shortens the motor’s axial length and allows torque generation closer to the outer diameter, increasing torque and power density while reducing weight. The design dates back to the earliest electric motors developed by physicist Michael Faraday in the 19th century. However, limitations in magnetic materials and manufacturing techniques prevented widespread commercialisation. Advances in permanent magnets, power electronics, and precision manufacturing have renewed interest in the technology. Chinese researchers said axial flux motors can reduce weight and axial size by approximately 50% compared with traditional motors delivering similar performance. These characteristics are particularly relevant for EVs, where compact drivetrains can free chassis space and improve packaging efficiency. New magnet material targets industrial bottlenecks The achievement of 25.73 kW/kg and 18,000 rpm addresses one of the longstanding challenges of axial flux motors. Historically, the disc-shaped architecture has been more difficult to stabilise at high rotational speeds because of structural deformation and magnetic-force imbalances. Improvements in magnetic materials and thermal stability help reduce these limitations, enabling operation under sustained high-load conditions required by modern EV drivetrains. The newly developed magnet material addresses several long-standing challenges in the deployment of axial flux motors. Engineers optimised magnetic formulations, refined microstructures, and improved high-temperature resistance to reduce demagnetisation under high-speed and high-load operating conditions. The resulting production-ready motor reportedly achieves an effective power density of 25.73 kW/kg and exceeds 18,000 rpm. Researchers said the combination of high rotational speed and high power density could support demanding EV operating conditions, including sustained highway driving and repeated acceleration events. The performance figures arrive as Chinese automakers continue to push electric-motor technology in different directions. Xiaomi Auto recently announced that the Xiaomi YU7 GT uses the new HyperEngine V8S EVO powertrain, a major upgrade over the V8S unit. The motor reaches a maximum speed of 28,000 rpm and uses a self-developed silicon carbide (SiC) power module that improves output by 5.9%. Xiaomi said the design also adopts 0.15 mm ultra-thin silicon steel laminations and achieves 98.38% efficiency. Chinese automakers have recently introduced higher-output traction motors, including BYD’s 240 kW electric motor, which has expanded into lower-priced EV segments. Dongfeng has meanwhile commercialised a different approach with the eπ 007 Flash Edition, China’s first volume-produced passenger EV equipped with four factory-fitted in-wheel motors and the world’s only mainstream mass-production four-hub-motor passenger sedan. China EV Global Sales by Brands in May. Credit: China EV DataTracker Beyond passenger vehicles The developers also highlighted applications of humanoid robotics. The axial flux motor system achieves a torque density of 293 N·m/kg, which researchers said is 22% higher than comparable benchmark products. Higher torque density allows robot joints to deliver greater force while maintaining compact dimensions and low weight. Low-altitude aircraft represent another target market where every kilogram saved can improve payload capacity and energy efficiency. In May, BYD ranked as the world’s largest EV maker with sales of 330,215 vehicles. Geely Galaxy, Leapmotor, Zeekr, and Xpeng also ranked among the top-selling EV brands globally from China. High-power/high-torque-density axial-flux motors are displayed.
  3. BYD asked net users to choose the name of its upcoming flagship sedan, allegedly called Great Han. The Dynasty Network’s GM Lu Tian posted six name variants for the new model. It will enter the domestic market as a BEV with over 1,000 km of range under CLTC conditions and flash charging capability. BYD has recently kicked off pre-sales of the Great Tang (Datang) full-size SUV with a 1000V high-voltage system and a starting price of 250,000 yuan (36,930 USD). This vehicle appeared as a massive success, gaining 100,000 pre-orders in less than two weeks, forcing BYD to delay the car’s launch to make sure it would meet the demand. Soon, BYD will introduce its flagship sedan to the market. On June 4, BYD Dynasty Network General Manager Lu Tian asked Weibo social media users to choose the name of the brand’s upcoming flagship sedan. He shared that the company came up with six name variants after several rounds of selection. As a result, six names made it to the final round: Great Han (Dahan) Han 9 Han Ultra Han Tianxia (All-Under-Heaven, represents the traditional Chinese vision of the world order) Xiaohan (Heaven Han) Han Chitu (Han Red Rabbit) The latter three name options for the flagship sedan are closely tied to Chinese culture, as BYD positions itself as a global bearer of Chinese culture. However, at press time, the Great Han variant had the most votes (1,727), with the runner-up, Han Tianxia, obtaining just 254 votes. It is safe to say that BYD’s new flagship will most likely be called Great Han (Dahan). More about the BYD Great Han The BYD Great Han was previously spotted in China several times during road tests. 5. Chinese EV giant BYD has officially confirmed that it is developing humanoid robots, marking the company’s most direct public statement yet on its ambitions beyond automobiles, according to First Financial. BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke said the company is already working on humanoid robots and believes the key competitive factors in the sector will be manufacturing, software, and hardware capabilities. She added that automotive AI and robotics share common technological foundations. If humanoid robots eventually become household products, BYD could distribute them through its existing dealer network. BYD sees overlap between cars and robots Li Ke said the company’s automotive AI expertise can be applied to robotics because both industries rely on perception, decision-making, motion control, software integration, and hardware engineering. Humanoid robots combine many technologies already used in modern intelligent vehicles, including sensors, electric actuators, batteries, computing platforms, and AI models. Vehicle manufacturers also possess large-scale manufacturing experience, supply-chain management capabilities, and expertise in safety-critical systems. These similarities have encouraged several Chinese automakers to explore robotics as a potential extension of their existing technology stacks. Open-platform approach discussed Li Ke said BYD could create an open platform rather than limiting itself to internally developed products. Under that approach, the company could manufacture its own robots while also cooperating with external robotics companies. Such a model would resemble BYD’s broader strategy in the automotive sector, where the company develops core technologies internally while maintaining extensive supplier and partner networks. The executive did not provide a commercialisation timeline, technical specifications, investment figures, or production targets. Chinese automakers accelerate humanoid robot efforts BYD joins a growing list of Chinese automakers entering the humanoid robotics sector. In April, we reported that Chery began online sales of a humanoid robot equipped with a 0.7-kWh battery and priced at 280,000 yuan (41,400 USD). The move made Chery one of the first major Chinese automakers to publicly commercialise a humanoid robot product. Another industry participant is Xpeng, which has increasingly linked its AI development strategy with future robotics applications. The company has positioned artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and embodied AI as related technology domains. Earlier, Xpeng unveiled navigation-free driving capabilities and L4 robotaxi plans, highlighting the growing convergence between automotive AI and robotics. Sales Context BYD remains China’s largest new-energy vehicle manufacturer by volume. The company sold 321,123 vehicles in April 2026. Its best-selling model that month was the Sealion 06, which recorded 19,649 deliveries, followed by the Yuan UP at 15,658 units and the Dolphin at 14,218 units, according to China EV DataTracker. In May, the company exported 160,177 passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, marking a year-over-year increase of 80.7%. Note: Many BYD models go by different names overseas, for example: the Yuan Up is the Atto 2, the Yuan Plus is the Atto 3, Seagull is Dolphin Mini and Dolphin Surf, and the Fang Cheng Bao 5 and 8 are called the Denza B5 and B8, respectively. Interestingly, while Song is a Chinese dynasty, for some complicated reason, the Song Plus is different from other Song models and belongs to the Ocean series.
  19. The new generation BYD Atto 3 secured more than 30,000 orders during its first week on sale in China, according to Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty sales network. Sold domestically as the Yuan Plus and marketed overseas as the Atto 3, the electric SUV launched on May 21 with a starting price of 119,800 yuan (16,600 USD). The model represents BYD’s latest update to one of its most widely exported passenger vehicles. Flash charging and longer range The third-generation Atto 3 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture and adopts the company’s second-generation Blade Battery technology together with flash charging capability. Battery options include 57.5 kWh and 68.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate packs, delivering CLTC range ratings of 540 km and 630 km, respectively. BYD says the updated model offers up to 120 km more range than the outgoing generation. The flash-charging system can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in as little as nine minutes under suitable conditions, according to previous BYD disclosures. The SUV has also grown in size. The new Atto 3 measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase. BYD additionally introduced a powered front trunk with 180 litres of storage space, while rear cargo capacity reaches up to 750 litres. BYD reported more than 30,000 orders during the model’s first week on sale. Rear-wheel-drive platform and DiPilot 300 Ahead of its launch, dealership display vehicles revealed the Atto 3’s new rear-wheel-drive architecture and flagship 240 kW electric motor. The production model is available with 200 kW and 240 kW rear-mounted electric motors; the range-topping variant produces 240 kW (322 hp) and offers up to 630 km of CLTC range. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson and rear five-link independent suspension setup. BYD also equips the crossover with the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, iTAC 2.0 torque control, and TBC tyre blowout stability control. Higher trims can be equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 300 advanced driver-assistance system, marketed as God’s Eye B. The package incorporates LiDAR and 30 sensing units to support highway and urban navigation assistance as well as automated parking functions. Inside, the updated SUV gains a larger floating touchscreen running the latest DiLink system, a head-up display, a column-mounted shifter, 50W wireless charging, ventilated and heated front seats, a refrigerated storage compartment, and a powered front passenger “Queen Seat” with leg support. Sales context The launch comes after a prolonged decline in domestic sales of Yuan Plus. The model recorded 5,111 units in April 2026, down 21.9% from March and 58.4% lower year-on-year. Monthly sales reached 6,540 units in March, 1,854 in February and 2,281 in January, according to China Ev DataTracker. The previous-generation Yuan Plus consistently sold above 11,000 units per month through much of 2025, including 13,168 units in June, 12,661 units in September and 12,255 units in May. 20. BYD has disclosed new technical details about the one-piece aluminium frame used in the Yangwang U8L, revealing a development program that began in 2023 and required the creation of China’s largest automotive integrated casting machine, in partnership with aerospace-backed supplier Hantek. The latest information expands on an earlier breakthrough reported by CarNewsChina, when the world’s first one-piece low-pressure-cast aluminium vehicle frame was revealed on the Yangwang U8L. The structure introduced a 4.2-square-meter integrated casting with wall thicknesses ranging from 4 mm to 50 mm, a manufacturing challenge previously considered beyond the limits of conventional automotive casting processes. Designed to outperform steel in every category According to BYD engineers, the project targeted a full-size vehicle frame that could exceed traditional steel structures in lightweighting, strength, corrosion resistance, and durability simultaneously. The team evaluated high-strength steel, hot-formed steel, titanium alloys, and aluminium alloys before selecting aluminium as the only material capable of meeting all objectives within current production constraints. Unlike conventional automotive aluminium structures, the U8L frame uses extensive aerospace-grade 6-series and 7-series aluminium alloys. Engineers combined these materials with a highly integrated structural layout intended to maximise stiffness while minimising mass. The challenge extended beyond materials. Engineers determined that achieving the required strength required both large-scale integrated casting and a major reduction in heat-affected zones in welded joints. That pushed the project toward cold-joining methods, including bolting and riveting, which are more commonly used in aerospace structures. Aerospace manufacturing methods enter automotive production BYD said no supplier had suitable equipment for casting a structure of this size when development began. After attempts with more traditional multi-piece rear casting solutions failed to meet repeated stress-testing targets, engineers sought solutions outside the automotive industry. The company partnered with Hantek, which has experience in aerospace manufacturing, to develop what BYD described as the largest integrated casting machine currently used in China’s automotive sector. The resulting process became the first domestic application of integrated low-pressure casting technology for a large vehicle frame. Parts count fell from 251 components to 119, while 67 rear-frame parts were consolidated into a single casting. Weld length dropped from approximately 100 meters to 9 meters, significantly reducing potential fatigue and deformation points. Engineers also introduced aerospace-derived dimensional-chain control methods to manage bolt preload distribution and joint reliability under dynamic loading conditions. BYD claims key connection-point performance improved more than fourfold, while tensile performance increased by more than two times compared with earlier development stages. Yangwang’s sales in China. Credit: China EV DataTracker Weight reduction and rigidity gains The finished aluminium frame reduced vehicle weight by 56 kg while increasing structural rigidity. BYD said the U8L became the first vehicle in the industry to pass a 12-ton lifting test using the integrated frame structure. Vehicle torsional rigidity reportedly exceeds comparable models by more than 50%. The disclosure comes as Yangwang continues to position itself as BYD’s technology showcase brand. At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Yangwang presented special versions of both the U8L and U9 Xtreme, while the limited-production U9 Xtreme later became the most expensive BYD vehicle ever sold, reaching 20 million yuan (2.76 million USD). Yangwang delivered 264 vehicles in April, following 307 units in March and 232 in February, according to China EV DataTracker. Hante partnered with BYD to develop a casting machine capable of producing the oversized structure.

  22. DashCast v1.3.25-betaWhat's new in 1.3.25-beta Voice — General-purpose AI assistant mode Jarvis now handles any question, not just car commands. New talk command replaces the dead-end unknown response: Car commands (cluster, diagnostics, logs, app launch) → executed + brief confirmation ≤ 10 words Everything else (Q&A, calculation, general culture, advice…) → free answer ≤ 2 sentences Behavioral changes: talk responses no longer dispatch to VoiceCommandRouter — no spurious broadcasts for pure conversation max_tokens raised from 120 → 200 to allow fuller answers to general questions Jarvis is honest about missing real-time data (weather, traffic): acknowledges the limitation rather than refusing ASR correction context tightened to driving scenarios Examples: "combien font 17 fois 23" → "391, Monsieur." "quelle est la capitale du Japon" → "Tokyo, Monsieur." "météo" → "Je n'ai pas accès aux données en temps réel, Monsieur. Consultez votre appli météo." "allume le cluster" → cluster activated Pre-release on feature/voice-v1.4-beta — not merged into main. LinksAPK download GitHub release page
  23. DashCast v1.3.24-betaWhat's new in 1.3.24-beta Architecture — Phase 2: AppRepository wiring App list loading is now fully delegated to AppRepository. The 100-line inline loader that lived inside MainActivity has been removed. Favorite toggle no longer re-queries PackageManager. Previously toggling a favorite triggered a full PM scan (~150 ms). It now patches the in-memory cache and re-sorts instantly. Auto-launch toggle now goes through AppRepository.setAutoLaunch() — consistent persistence, no manual loop over the adapter. Extracted deliverAppsToUI(): single method splits favorites (strip) vs. non-favorites (grid), feeds both views, and manages the one-shot welcome tip. Sort order preserved: Category (Navigation → Media → Other) → Favorites first → Launch count ↓ → Alphabetical. Architecture — Phase 1 (v1.3.21-beta, included as base) ClusterPrefs introduced as single source of truth for all SharedPreferences access — eliminates scattered duplicate constants across MainActivity, SettingsActivity, BootReceiver, and BetaConfig. Pre-release on feature/voice-v1.4-beta — not merged into main. LinksAPK download GitHub release page
  24. DashCast v1.3.23-betaLarge Vosk model support with resumable download New feature: high-accuracy ASR model The Voice tab in DiagActivity now offers a choice between two Vosk French models: Model Size Accuracy Small (default) ~40 MB Good for short commands Large (vosk-model-fr-0.6-linto) ~1.3 GB Significantly better French ASR The large model is recommended when on Wi-Fi and when you experience recurring transcription errors (e.g. «mettez» for «météo»). Resumable download Download resumes automatically after a connection drop (HTTP Range: bytes=X-) No read timeout — safe for large files on a slow connection Disk space check before starting (requires 2× zip size free) Download written to .download.tmp then unzipped; temp file deleted on success Progress UI Progress bar in the Diag → Voice tab (0–100%) during download Indeterminate bar during unzip phase Storage available shown in real time Delete button to free up disk space Technical VoskTranscriber: two model configs, constructor reads ClusterPrefs.isVoskHighAccuracy() New broadcast extras: EXTRA_PROGRESS, EXTRA_PROGRESS_MB, EXTRA_PROGRESS_TOTAL (-1 = unzipping) Static helpers: isModelDownloaded(), getFreeSpaceMb(), deleteModel(), preDownload() Strings localised in all 12 supported locales versionCode 372 → 373 · versionName 1.3.22-beta → 1.3.23-beta LinksAPK download GitHub release page
  25. DashCast v1.3.22-betaFixes — Voice command reliability Fix 1: Spurious "not understood" on empty audio When nothing was heard (or only background noise), Vosk returned an empty transcript. This was silently routed to the LLM which replied "I didn't understand" and played the TTS. Fix: route() now returns immediately on empty/whitespace transcripts — no API call, no TTS. Fix 2: "diagnostic" correctly heard but LLM replies "not understood" Root cause: GPT-4o-mini occasionally wraps its JSON response in markdown code fences (json ... ) despite being instructed not to. This caused a JSONException, the pipeline silently fell back to the regex router, which didn't match anything, and the fallback TTS said "not understood". Fix: JSON response is stripped of any markdown code fences before parsing. Fix 3: ASR homophones ("mettez" instead of "météo") Vosk makes phonetic errors in car conditions. The system prompt now instructs the LLM to: Correct common ASR mistakes in automotive context ("mettez" → "météo", "diagnostique" → "diagnostic", etc.) Accept command synonyms ("allume" = activate, "étein" / "ferme" = deactivate, "diag" = diagnostic…) Use 5 few-shot examples to reinforce correct JSON output format Reply "Je ne gère pas cette fonction, Monsieur." for unsupported commands (not "I didn't understand") versionCode 371 → 372 · versionName 1.3.21-beta → 1.3.22-beta LinksAPK download GitHub release page
