BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme sold at 2,760,000 USD, becomes most expensive BYD ever

BYD has confirmed that its Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric supercar was sold for more than 20,000,000 yuan (2,760,000 USD) per unit at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, making it the highest-priced transaction recorded at the event, according to company executive Li Yunfei.

Based on the disclosed price, it is BYD’s most expensive production vehicle to date.

Record-priced transaction

Li Yunfei, General Manager of Branding and Public Relations at BYD Group, stated that the U9 Xtreme was the most expensive model sold during the show. The vehicle is limited to 30 units globally. At least one unit was delivered at the event, with BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu personally handing over the car.

The U9 Xtreme represents the highest transaction price achieved by a BYD production model to date and sets a new benchmark for Chinese-branded supercar pricing.

Performance credentials

The model’s pricing is supported by a set of performance claims previously disclosed by BYD. The U9 Xtreme recorded a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 6:59.157, placing it at the top of the production electric vehicle category. It also set lap records across multiple Chinese circuits, including Zhuzhou, Zhuhai, Chengdu Tianfu, and Shanghai.

Technical specifications include a reported output exceeding 3,000 horsepower and a 1200V electrical architecture. The car is equipped with BYD’s DiSus-X fully active suspension system and uses reinforced braking components, including carbon-ceramic discs.

Beijing Auto Show debut context

At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, BYD’s Yangwang brand presented both the U9 Xtreme and the U8L, a four-seat luxury SUV positioned in the ultra-high-end segment. The U8L is expected to compete with models such as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, with earlier reports indicating a price point above 1,300,000 yuan (179,400 USD).

This dual-model showcase reflects Yangwang’s positioning across both performance and luxury categories within BYD’s portfolio.

Scaling high-end positioning

Yangwang operates as BYD’s premium sub-brand, targeting low-volume, high-price segments. The U9 Xtreme’s limited production run of 30 units aligns with this strategy, prioritising exclusivity over scale.

Data context

According to China EV DataTracker, Yangwang reported domestic sales of 945 units in Q1 2026, up 80.3% year over year from 524 units in Q1 2025. Quarterly sales declined 58.0% from Q4 2025, when 2,248 units were recorded.

Industry push

Chinese automakers have increasingly entered ultra-luxury and high-performance segments traditionally dominated by established global brands. The U9 Xtreme’s pricing and specifications place it within a category that includes limited-production electric and hybrid hypercars.
