BYD Song Ultra EV kicks off 4,244 km cross‑China drive, flash network hits 5,979 stations

(0 reviews)

BYD officially launched a 4,244 km cross-China drive event for the BYD Song Ultra EV on May 16, with a convoy departing from Lianyungang in eastern China and heading toward Khorgos on the Kazakhstan border via the G30 Lianhuo Expressway, according to Y-Auto.

The event is designed as a long-distance validation test of BYD’s expanding flash-charging infrastructure and the Song Ultra EV’s long-range travel capability. The route crosses six provinces and includes highways, desert sections, Gobi terrain, and rural roads.

Flash charging network expansion

BYD’s charging network continues to scale rapidly. With 55 new flash-charging stations added from May 7 to 14, the company’s domestic footprint has grown to 5,979 stations spanning 312 cities. Reflecting this momentum, the BYD flash-charging app has now surpassed 1 million users.

At the launch ceremony, Wang Jiabin, regional director of BYD Dynasty Network’s Suzhou-Shanghai division, said the Song Ultra EV can achieve “5-minute good charge, 9-minute near full charge” under BYD’s flash charging system.

The company also stated that the entire G30 Lianhuo Expressway route used for the test drive already has full flash charging coverage.

BYD previously launched the Song Ultra EV in China in March with a starting price of 149,800 yuan (21,900 USD). The SUV supports 9-minute fast charging and offers up to 710 km CLTC range. ()

Long-distance test route

The convoy will pass several tourist and historical locations, including Shaolin Temple, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Datang Everbright City, Zhangye Danxia, Jiayuguan, and the Flaming Mountains.

BYD said the drive will evaluate charging stability under high-temperature conditions, charging network coverage, range performance, and vehicle operation across different road surfaces and climates.

The automaker also highlighted the vehicle’s DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, intelligent anti-motion sickness functions, and VTOL external power supply system during the event presentation.

The Song Ultra EV is positioned as a large five-seat electric SUV and uses BYD’s DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system.
