BYD Song L GT electric fastback seen in China after a year-long lull

(0 reviews)

The BYD Song L GT electric fastback crossover was seen in China one year after it had revealed core specs during the domestic homologation. This vehicle undergoes road tests, potentially upgrading to the brand’s latest tech, including the Flash Charging.

The BYD Song L GT was initially exposed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July 2025 as the updated version of the Song L EV, which entered China in December 2023. According to China EV DataTracker, this fastback crossover has practically left the Chinese market, with just 981 units delivered from January to May 2026, down 88.9% Year-Over-Year.

Everything looked as if BYD just abandoned the idea of bringing the refreshed model to the market, focusing on more promising mainstream segments. However, SugarDesign Weibo blogger shared a photo of the new Song L GT undergoing road tests in China without camouflage. The car could be easily distinguished by aggressive styling with a sporty bumper and a large air intake.

The new BYD Song L GT adopts thin headlamps joined by a chrome-plated “Dragon Whisker” element. Other features include hidden door handles, a LiDAR sensor on the roof, and blackened pillars. According to previous information, the Song L GT boasts dimensions of 4,840/1,950/1,560 mm with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. The curb weight reaches 2,380 kg.

The Song L GT is available with three powertrain options:

  • RWD, 170 kW (228 hp)
  • RWD, 230 kW (308 hp)
  • AWD, 390 kW (523 hp)

In 2025, there was no information about the Song L GT’s battery. There is a chance this fastback crossover’s launch was postponed to 2026, as BYD wanted to equip this model with the latest Blade 2.0 pack, which can charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. This vehicle could also possibly feature the DiPilot 5.0 assisted-driving system.
