BYD Denza Z9S sedan exposed with 496 hp and 3,025 mm wheelbase

The Denza Z9S pure-electric sedan has been revealed in the latest vehicle catalogue from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The regulatory filings offer a clear look at the upcoming luxury sedan ahead of its official launch, detailing two performance options that share a 3,025 mm wheelbase.

This new model follows a string of premium launches from the brand, establishing a clear dual-body strategy. The sedan aims to build on the momentum of the Denza Z9 GT, which surpassed 10,000 deliveries in just 2.5 months after launch. By adding a traditional three-box sedan shape to the lineup, the automaker is targeting mainstream luxury buyers who prefer classic, understated proportions.

Powertrain and hardware

The entry-level trim uses a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor from Zhengzhou BYD, delivering a rated power of 160 kW and a peak output of 320 kW. This version has a curb weight of 2,250 kg and rides on 19-inch wheels with 245/50R19 tyres up front and 275/45R19 tyres at the rear. It runs on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, with cells manufactured by Hefei BYD and packs assembled by Shanwei FinDreams.

The high-performance version gets a more powerful Zhengzhou BYD motor, raising the rated power to 185 kW and peak output to 370 kW (496 hp). This variant weighs 2,545 kg and steps up to 20-inch wheels paired with specialised HL275/40R20 tyres to handle the extra power. Its LFP battery cells are produced by Wuwei FinDreams, with final assembly completed by Shenzhen BYD.

Dimensions and equipment

Both sedan variants share a wide stance, measuring 5,090 mm long and 1,980 mm wide. The base model is slightly taller at 1,510 mm, while the high-performance version sits lower at 1,490 mm. Both versions are limited to a top speed of 250 km/h and offer standard seating for five people.

A fixed panoramic glass roof comes standard across the lineup, along with a mandatory event data recorder (EDR) safety setup. Buyers can customise the exterior with optional factory features like a motorised active rear spoiler, unique side-mirror housings, and flush door handles. The high-performance variant also offers standalone options, including custom sport wheels and colored brake callipers.

Market delivery trends

The launch of the new sedan comes as Denza expands its upscale lineup and grows its local sales. The premium brand recorded 18,631 sales in June 2026, marking a 19.3% month-on-month increase and a 31.1% gain compared to June 2025. These steady gains show a strong recovery from earlier in the year, when winter volumes dipped to 5,351 units, according to China EV DataTracker.

This new model fits into Denza’s plan to capture premium market share, following the global rollout of the Denza Z, which debuted at Goodwood with a pre-sale price starting at 184,800 USD. Using cost-effective LFP battery packs for the Z9S allows the brand to target a more competitive price bracket, helping drive higher sales volumes while protecting the premium image of its flagship 1,582 hp models.
