The new BYD Atto 3, known in China as the Yuan Plus, has begun arriving at dealerships ahead of its official launch on May 21, as we reported, now confirmed by Autohome. The model made its first public appearance at the Beijing Auto Show and is now entering the pre-launch showroom display phase across selected locations in China.
Narrowing cost gap
The New Atto 3 introduces BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery system, paired with the brand’s flash charging technology, both of which are positioned as key hardware upgrades over the outgoing model. Depending on the configuration, the CLTC range reaches up to 630 km, while the preview documentation reports efficiency figures of 11.8–12.1 kWh/100 km.
Power output is offered in two rear-wheel-drive variants, delivering 200 kW and 240 kW, respectively. BYD also integrates its Yun-N C adaptive damping system into the chassis upgrade package.
Scaling up
The vehicle grows in size to 4665 mm in length, 1895 mm in width, and 1675 mm in height, with a 2770 mm wheelbase. Compared to the previous generation, the extended wheelbase aims to increase rear-seat space while maintaining compact SUV proportions.
Exterior design updates include six available paint schemes, such as dual-tone options, semi-hidden door handles, and a revised rear lighting signature integrated into a full-width light bar. D-pillar trim panels also offer customizable colour configurations depending on specification.
Industry push
The launch comes as BYD continues expanding its rollout of fast-charging and high-voltage architecture across its passenger vehicle lineup. The flash charging system is paired with the upgraded Blade Battery 2.0 in the new Atto 3, forming part of the brand’s broader electrification platform strategy.
Crossover by 2027
Interior revisions include a larger central display, a redesigned centre console with a wireless charging pad, and a shift to a column-mounted gear selector. Physical buttons remain for selected core functions, while ambient lighting and revised air vents continue BYD’s current design direction.
Storage space has been expanded through interior reorganisation, while the rear cabin layout remains flat-floor-based. The model also retains a dual-zone practical layout with multiple storage compartments distributed throughout the cabin.
Market positioning
Advanced driver assistance features are expected to include sensor-based highway assistance and automated parking functions, depending on trim level. Higher variants may support lidar-based configurations paired with BYD’s in-house computing platform.
The Atto 3 continues to sit in the compact electric SUV segment but increases specification overlap with larger C-segment models through its size increase and upgraded drivetrain output.
Sales context
According to China EV DataTracker, BYD Yuan Plus domestic sales have declined significantly from prior peaks. In 2024 Q3, sales reached 78,216 units, while in 2025 Q4, they dropped to 21,514 units. By 2026 Q1, sales further decreased to 10,675 units, reflecting continued quarter-on-quarter contraction across the latest reporting periods in China’s compact electric SUV segment.
